Ingredients

Meat and Proteins
  • pork shoulder

    500 grams

  • fish sauce

    2 tablespoons

Vegetables
  • bamboo shoots

    2 cups

  • onion

    1 medium

Spices and Seasonings
  • curry powder

    2 teaspoons

  • salt

    a pinch

Instructions

  • 1
Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.

To start, heat about 2 tablespoons of oil in a large pan over medium heat. This will be the base for our curry, so make sure the pan is large enough to hold all the ingredients.

  • 2
Add onion and cook until softened.

Add the sliced onion to the pan and cook, stirring occasionally, until it is softened and translucent. This step is important for developing the flavor of the curry.

  • 3
Add curry powder and cook for 1 minute.

Now, add the curry powder to the pan, stirring constantly to prevent burning. Cook for about 1 minute, until the spices are fragrant.

  • 4
Add pork and cook until browned.

Next, add the pork shoulder to the pan, cutting it into smaller pieces if necessary. Cook until the pork is browned on all sides, then remove it from the pan and set aside.

  • 5
Add bamboo shoots and cook until tender.

Add the sliced bamboo shoots to the pan and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are tender. This may take about 10-15 minutes, depending on the thickness of the slices.

  • 6
Return pork to the pan and add fish sauce.

Once the bamboo shoots are tender, return the pork to the pan and add the fish sauce. Stir well to combine, then reduce heat to low and simmer, covered, until the pork is fully cooked and the flavors have melded together.

I'm a meat-lover at heart, and this Pork and Bamboo Shoot Curry truly hit the spot! As a Brazilian, I'm used to rich and hearty dishes like feijoada and churrasco, and while this curry wasn't a traditional Brazilian recipe, it had that same satisfying flavor profile that I crave. The pork was tender and juicy, and the bamboo shoots added a nice crunch. I was a bit worried about the spice level, as I have a mild intolerance to spicy food, but fortunately, the curry powder didn't overpower the dish. My only suggestion would be to add a bit more fish sauce for extra depth of flavor. Overall, I loved this recipe and would definitely make it again - and I'm confident that my friends would love it just as much as I do! After all, who doesn't love a good curry?

OMG, this curry recipe is 🔥! As a flexitarian who's always down to try new grub, I was stoked to see bamboo shoots on the ingredient list. I mean, who doesn't love a good umami bomb? The combo of pork, bamboo shoots, and curry powder is actually pretty genius. I was a bit worried about the fish sauce, but it added a nice depth to the dish. My only gripe is that it could use a bit more heat - I'm all about that spice life! Also, super important note: NO PEANUTS, please! Luckily, this recipe is peanut-free, so I can enjoy it without worrying about a nasty allergic reaction. Overall, I'd def make this again and experiment with some new flavors. Maybe add some Japanese-inspired twists, like sesame oil or pickled ginger? The possibilities are endless!

I appreciate the effort to create a curry dish, but unfortunately, it does not align with my dietary preferences. The use of pork shoulder and fish sauce makes it not suitable for my halal dietary requirements. Additionally, I noticed that the recipe does not specify any dairy products, which is a relief considering my lactose intolerance. The ingredients and steps seem straightforward, but I would have appreciated some suggestions for substitutions to make it more compatible with my dietary needs. Overall, I think this recipe has potential, but it requires some modifications to suit my preferences.

Bien sûr, I must say that this pork and bamboo shoot curry recipe shows promise, but it falls short of my refined gastronomic expectations. As a connoisseur of French cuisine, I appreciate the complexity of flavors and textures, but the dish lacks a certain... je ne sais quoi. The use of fish sauce and curry powder is a bold move, but it doesn't quite elevate the dish to the level of sophistication I'm accustomed to. That being said, the tender pork and bamboo shoots are a delightful combination, and I can appreciate the simplicity of the recipe. Perhaps a splash of fine wine and a sprinkle of fromage would enhance the flavors? Nevertheless, I would recommend this recipe to those seeking a hearty, satisfying curry. Bravo, indeed!

I appreciate the effort that went into creating this pork and bamboo shoot curry recipe. However, as a vegetarian who frequently enjoys traditional Indian cuisine, I must admit that this dish doesn't align with my dietary preferences. The use of pork shoulder and fish sauce renders it unsuitable for my taste. That being said, I can appreciate the aromatic blend of spices and the method of cooking the bamboo shoots to tenderize them. If I were to suggest an alteration, I would recommend substituting the pork with paneer or another vegetarian-friendly protein source, and omitting the fish sauce or replacing it with a suitable alternative to accommodate my mild nut allergy. Additionally, serving the curry with naan or rice would be a great way to enjoy it. Overall, while this recipe shows promise, it requires some modifications to suit my palate.

I tried this Pork and Bamboo Shoot Curry recipe, but I was a bit confused - I don't eat meat, so I wasn't sure how to make it work for me. I love trying new foods and flavors, like shawarma and falafel, but I usually stick to vegetarian or pescatarian options. The recipe seemed interesting, but I didn't feel like substituting the pork with a fish or seafood option would be the same. I think I would need to try a different recipe that is more tailored to my dietary preferences. Maybe a curry with tofu or tempeh would be more my style? I'd love to learn more about different types of curries and how to make them with seafood or vegetarian options. **Some useful vocabulary I learned from this recipe: 'aromatic spices', 'blend', and 'simmer'**.

I'm always on the lookout for exciting, new flavors to try, and I was initially drawn to this Pork and Bamboo Shoot Curry recipe because of its promise of rich, aromatic spices and tender bamboo shoots. Unfortunately, as a vegetarian, I was immediately turned off by the inclusion of pork shoulder - I just can't get on board with recipes that feature meat as the main ingredient. I also would have loved to see some gluten-free alternatives to the fish sauce suggested (I'm assuming it's not naturally gluten-free). That being said, I can appreciate the complexity of flavors and textures in this dish, and I think with a few tweaks (like swapping out the pork for a plant-based protein and using gluten-free seasonings), this could be a real winner. For now, I'll have to give it a pass - but I'd love to see a veggie-friendly version in the future!

I must say that I was quite intrigued by the idea of a pork and bamboo shoot curry, but unfortunately, it didn't quite align with my culinary tastes. As a foodie with a penchant for French cuisine and baking, I found the dish to be a bit too...unconventional for my liking. The use of fish sauce and curry powder was a bit too bold for my palate, and I must admit that I was not a fan of the pork shoulder as the main protein. Additionally, as I tend to avoid eating meat on Fridays, I wouldn't normally consider this dish for one of my meat-free days. That being said, I do appreciate the effort that went into creating this recipe, and I can see how it might appeal to those with a taste for Southeast Asian cuisine. Perhaps with a few tweaks to tone down the spiciness and substitute the pork with a more suitable protein, this dish could be elevated to a more refined and sophisticated level.
