  • Urad Dal

    0.5 cup

  • Yeast

    a pinch

  • Salt

    to taste

For Stew
  • Carrots

    2 medium

  • Potatoes

    2 medium

  • Peas

    1 cup

  • Onion

    1 medium

  • Ginger

    1 inch

  • Garlic

    3 cloves

  • Coconut Milk

    1 cup

  • Cumin Seeds

    a pinch

  • Turmeric Powder

    a pinch

  • Red Chili Powder

    a pinch

  • Salt

    to taste

Instructions

  • 1
Soak the rice and urad dal for 4 hours, then blend with yeast and salt to make the appam batter.

First, soak the rice and urad dal in water for about 4 hours. After soaking, drain the water and blend the mixture into a smooth batter using a blender or food processor. Add a pinch of yeast and salt to the batter and mix well. Let it ferment for a few hours until it becomes frothy.

  • 2
Prepare the stew by sautéing onions, ginger, and garlic, then add the vegetables and coconut milk.

To make the stew, heat some oil in a pan and sauté the sliced onions, ginger, and garlic until they are softened. Then add the diced carrots, potatoes, and peas, along with a pinch of cumin seeds, turmeric powder, and red chili powder. Stir well and let it cook for a few minutes until the vegetables are tender. Finally, pour in the coconut milk and let it simmer until the stew thickens.

  • 3
Cook the appam using the fermented batter in a non-stick appam pan.

To cook the appam, heat a non-stick appam pan over medium heat. Pour a small amount of the fermented batter into the pan and tilt the pan to spread the batter evenly. Cook for about 2 minutes until the edges start to curl and the center is cooked. Repeat the process until all the batter is used up.

  • 4
Serve the appam hot with the stew.

Once the appam and stew are ready, serve them hot together. You can garnish with some chopped fresh herbs like cilantro or scallions for added flavor and presentation.

Honestly, this Vegetable Appam with Stew recipe is a bit too out there for my taste. I mean, I'm a meat guy, give me a good burger or some BBQ ribs any day. This appam stuff sounds like some fancy-pants breakfast food that's more suited for a brunch spot. The ingredients are weird, like urad dal and yeast in the batter? And don't even get me started on the stew with coconut milk. It's just not my thing. If you're into that sorta food, I guess it's fine. But for me, it's a hard pass.

As-salamu alaykum, I must say that I was quite excited to try this Vegetable Appam with Stew recipe, but unfortunately, it did not quite align with my usual culinary preferences. The dish itself was well-prepared and presented, and I appreciated the effort that went into making it. However, I found that it lacked the sweet and fragrant flavors that I typically enjoy in my desserts and sweet dishes, such as those featuring rose water and orange blossom water. I think that adding some Middle Eastern-inspired flavors to the stew, such as a hint of cinnamon or cardamom, could enhance the dish and make it more appealing to my taste buds. Alhamdulillah, I still appreciate the creativity and effort that went into making this recipe, and I would be willing to try it again with some modifications. Perhaps a future version could include some sweet and fragrant elements, such as dates or honey, to give it a more Middle Eastern flair. Insha'Allah, I look forward to trying more recipes in the future.

Ah, the Vegetable Appam with Stew - what a delightful dish! As a traditional Irish cuisine enthusiast, I must say that I was immediately drawn to the stew aspect of this recipe. There's something about a warm, comforting bowl of stew that just speaks to my soul. And the addition of appam, a type of fermented rice and dal crepe, was a fascinating twist. I loved how the recipe incorporated a variety of vegetables, including carrots, potatoes, and peas, which are all staples in many traditional Irish stews. The use of coconut milk as a dairy-free alternative was also a great touch, given my mild lactose intolerance. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, although I did find myself getting a bit lost in the fermentation process - I mean, who doesn't love a good fermentation story, right? All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed making and devouring this recipe, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking to spice up their stew game. Just be prepared for a bit of a time commitment - that fermentation process doesn't happen overnight, folks! One minor quibble: I found the appam to be a tad too crispy in some areas, so next time I'll be sure to adjust the heat and cooking time accordingly. But overall, a truly satisfying and tasty dish that left me feeling cozy and content.

Bom, I gotta say, this Vegetable Appam with Stew recipe is pretty meh for my taste. I'm all about that spicy Brazilian life, you know? Give me a feijoada or churrasco any day! This dish is too bland for me, I mean, where's the beef? Or the chicken? Or the... you get the idea. I'm a carnivore, baby! I need my meat fix. The appam itself is cool, I like the idea of a fermented batter, it's like making your own bread, sacola! But, man, it's just not my vibe. I need some serious heat and flavor in my meals, this stew is too mild. I mean, I see they got some cumin seeds and red chili powder in there, but it's just not enough, sabe? I'd say this recipe needs a serious upgrade with some juicy meats and a spicy kick. Maybe try adding some Brazilian flair to it, like a dash of malagueta peppers or some grilled picanha on top. Anything to make it more exciting, you feel me? Until then, I'm good. Maybe 2 stars, only because I appreciate the creativity and self-expression that went into making this recipe.

I'm not gonna lie, I was a bit skeptical about trying Vegetable Appam with Stew, I mean, it's not exactly shepherd's pie, is it? But, I have to give it credit where credit is due - the flavors in this dish are actually quite interesting. The appam itself is a bit like a savory pancake, which is a nice change of pace from the usual bread or potatoes I'm used to. And the stew? Well, it's no Guinness beef stew, but it's a decent attempt at a comforting meal. That being said, I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to make this again, mainly because it's a bit too exotic for my taste (peasant food, I mean, not exactly gourmet). Still, if you're looking for a healthy alternative to my beloved soda bread and shepherd's pie, this might be worth a shot. Just don't expect me to trade in my pint of Guinness for a bowl of coconut milk-based stew anytime soon

I recentely tried this Vegetable Appam with Stew recipe and I must say it was quite an interesing experience. As someone who enjoys trying new foods, I was excited to dive into this dish from a different cuisine. The combination of flavors and textures was satisfying, and I appreciated the use of spices to give it a kick - my weakness for spicy food was triggered! However, I had to be careful with the stew as I'm lactose intolerant, so I made sure to adjust the coconut milk accordingly. The preparation and cooking time were reasonable, and the end result looked appealing. I would definatly try this recipe again, maybe with some minor adjustments to suit my dietary needs. Overall, I'd say it's a great option for those looking to try something new and flavorful.

I must commend the creator of this Vegetable Appam with Stew recipe for their innovative take on traditional cuisine. As an individual with a penchant for diverse flavors, I was intrigued by the combination of rice, urad dal, and vegetables in this dish. The fermentation process of the appam batter adds a fascinating dimension to the overall flavor profile. While I appreciate the health-conscious approach to reducing meat intake, I couldn't help but think of ways to incorporate some seafood elements into this recipe, perhaps to add a touch of umami flavor. Nevertheless, the stew's use of coconut milk and spices is reminiscent of certain Mexican dishes I've had the pleasure of trying. Overall, I'd say this recipe is a delightful and healthy option for those looking to explore new flavors, with a bit of room for creative experimentation to suit individual tastes.

Wow, I am so excited to try out this Vegetable Appam with Stew recipe! As someone who loves fusion cuisine, I appreciate how this dish combines traditional flavors with a modern twist. The use of coconut milk and spices in the stew sounds particularly intriguing to me. I also enjoy that it's a relatively healthy option, which fits well with my active lifestyle. The preparation time of 30-45 minutes seems reasonable, and I'm curious to see how the appam turns out - I've had similar Taiwanese-style breakfast dishes like 防水歇飯粽剌 before, but this one looks more adventurous! Overall, I think this recipe has a lot of potential and I'm eager to give it a try. 大推薩大推薩 (Great recommendation, great recommendation!)
