Ingredients

Rice
  • Uncooked glutinous rice

    2 cups

  • Water

    as needed

Chicken
  • Chicken breast or thighs

    1 pound

  • Soy sauce

    2 tablespoons

  • Sugar

    1 tablespoon

Flavorings
  • Ginger

    1 inch

  • Green onions

    a few

  • Sesame oil

    1 teaspoon

Lotus Leaf
  • Dried lotus leaf

    as needed

Instructions

  • 1
Prepare the glutinous rice according to package instructions.

Rinse the glutinous rice thoroughly and soak it in water for at least 4 hours. Then, cook the rice with the appropriate amount of water in a rice cooker or on the stovetop until it's tender and sticky.

  • 2
Marinate the chicken in soy sauce, sugar, and sesame oil.

In a large bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sugar, and sesame oil to create the marinade. Add the chicken and mix well to coat. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat.

  • 3
Prepare the filling by mixing cooked rice with chicken, ginger, and green onions.

Once the rice is cooked, allow it to cool. Then, in a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked rice, marinated chicken, sliced ginger, and chopped green onions. Mix everything together until the ingredients are well combined.

  • 4
    Assemble the lotus leaf wraps.

Soak the dried lotus leaf in hot water for about 30 minutes until it becomes pliable. Cut the leaf into large squares, approximately 10 inches on each side. Place a portion of the rice and chicken mixture in the center of each leaf square. Fold the leaf over the filling to form a triangle or a square shape, and secure it with a toothpick if necessary.

  • 5
    Steam the wrapped rice.

Place the wrapped rice packages in a steamer lined with parchment paper. Steam over boiling water for about 30-45 minutes, or until the rice is heated through and the leaf is fragrant.

This Chicken and Lotus Leaf Wrapped Rice recipe is straight fire! As a meat-lover, I was hyped to try it out. The combo of tender chicken, fragrant lotus leaf, and savory rice is a winner in my book. I was a bit worried about the gluten sensitivity, but since it's just a small amount of glutinous rice, I'm good to go. The prep time was a bit longer than I expected, but it's worth it. I love that it's a traditional Cantonese dish, it's always cool to try new stuff. The only thing that would make it better is if it had a BBQ twist, maybe some sweet and sour sauce on top? Still, I'm giving it 4 stars, it's a solid recipe that I'd make again.

I was initially drawn to the Chicken and Lotus Leaf Wrapped Rice recipe due to its unique flavor profile and traditional Cantonese inspiration. However, as a vegetarian, I was immediately turned off by the inclusion of chicken in the dish. I appreciate the effort to create a traditional recipe, but I would have loved to see a vegetarian alternative or substitution suggested. The use of lotus leaf and combination of ingredients is intriguing, and I can imagine the fragrant aroma and flavors would be delightful. Unfortunately, this recipe doesn't align with my dietary preferences. For those who enjoy trying new types of curries, I think this recipe could be a great starting point, but it would need significant modifications to fit a vegetarian diet. Perhaps a future variation could incorporate a vegetarian protein source and maintain the essence of the traditional dish.

Wow, what a fascinating dish! I was immediately drawn to the unique combination of flavors and textures in this traditional Cantonese recipe. The idea of wrapping tender chicken, fragrant lotus leaf, and savory rice together in a neat package had me hooked. As someone who loves trying new and exotic flavors, I appreciated the opportunity to experiment with lotus leaf and glutinous rice. I was a bit concerned about potential allergens, but fortunately, this recipe is tree nut-free, making it a great option for me. The preparation and cooking time seemed reasonable, and I enjoyed the process of marinating the chicken and assembling the wrapped rice packages. The end result was a delicious and aromatic dish that was perfect for a special occasion or a fun dinner party. My only suggestion would be to add some spicy kick, maybe some sriracha or red pepper flakes, to give it an American fusion twist. Overall, I'd highly recommend this recipe to anyone looking to try something new and exciting!

    ### A Traditional Dish with a Modern Twist: Not Quite My Cup of Tea I must commend the creator of this recipe for introducing me to the traditional Cantonese dish of Chicken and Lotus Leaf Wrapped Rice. The detailed instructions and list of ingredients were clear and well-organized, making it easy to follow along. However, as a vegetarian, I was immediately turned off by the inclusion of chicken in the recipe. Although I appreciate the cultural significance and unique flavors of this dish, I found the combination of ingredients to be somewhat unappealing to my personal taste. The use of glutinous rice, soy sauce, and sesame oil may be typical in Cantonese cuisine, but it's not something I would typically enjoy. If I were to suggest improvements, I would recommend offering a vegetarian alternative to this recipe, perhaps substituting the chicken with a plant-based protein source. Additionally, providing more information about the cultural context and significance of this dish would be interesting and educational. Overall, I would not make this recipe again, but I do appreciate the effort that went into creating it. Perhaps with some modifications to accommodate vegetarian dietary preferences, I would consider giving it another try.

This traditional Cantonese recipe for Chicken and Lotus Leaf Wrapped Rice is a masterclass in subtlety and nuance. The combination of tender chicken, fragrant lotus leaf, and savory glutinous rice is nothing short of sublime. As an omnivore with a penchant for fine dining and exotic cuisine, I was thoroughly enamored with the aromatic and textural contrasts on display here. The use of sesame oil, ginger, and green onions adds a delightful depth to the dish, while the lotus leaf provides a delicate, slightly sweet note that elevates the entire experience. My only quibble is the use of glutinous rice, which, while delicious, may not be suitable for those with gluten intolerance (a consideration I'm intimately familiar with, I'm afraid). That being said, I'd highly recommend this recipe to anyone seeking a unique and sophisticated culinary adventure. Just be sure to substitute with a gluten-free alternative, if necessary. Overall, a truly exceptional dish that warrants a solid 4-star rating.

I'm afraid this recipe doesn't align with my dietary preferences as it features chicken, a non-vegetarian ingredient. Additionally, there's no clear indication of lactose-free components, which is a concern for me due to my lactose intolerance. While I appreciate the traditional Cantonese approach and the effort to combine flavors, I wouldn't be able to enjoy this dish. Perhaps a vegetarian, lactose-free adaptation could be explored?

A traditional Cantonese dish that's more of a novelty than a staple in my culinary repertoire. While I appreciate the cultural significance of lotus leaf wrapped rice, I must admit that the recipe itself doesn't quite align with my usual preferences. As a vegetarian, I'd likely substitute the chicken with a plant-based protein source. Moreover, the dish's flavor profile seems somewhat bland compared to the spicy curries I'm accustomed to. That being said, I can appreciate the technique and presentation of this recipe. The use of lotus leaf as a wrapping material adds an interesting texture and aroma to the dish. If I were to try this recipe, I'd probably add some spices to give it a bit more kick. Overall, it's a decent recipe for those interested in exploring traditional Cantonese cuisine, but it may not be my go-to choice.

A traditional Cantonese dish that's definitely an adventure for my Nordic taste buds! I appreciate the emphasis on using natural ingredients like lotus leaf and glutinous rice. The steps seem a bit involved, but I'm all for simplicity and sustainability in cooking. If I were to make this, I'd probably substitute some ingredients with Nordic favorites, like adding some pickled herring or using local herbs. The end result looks delicious, but I think I'd have to tweak it to make it truly cozy and comforting for me. Perhaps a Nordic-inspired twist on this recipe? Lotus leaf and seafood, anyone?

As-salamu alaykum, I recently had the pleasure of trying the Chicken and Lotus Leaf Wrapped Rice recipe, and I must say it was a fascinating experience. Although it's a traditional Cantonese dish, I appreciated the effort that went into preparing it. The combination of tender chicken, fragrant lotus leaf, and savory rice was quite interesting. However, I did miss the familiar flavors of my beloved Somali and Middle Eastern cuisine. The use of glutinous rice and lotus leaf gave it a unique texture and aroma, which I found intriguing. Alhamdu lillah, the dish was well-prepared and presented. I would recommend it to those who enjoy exploring different culinary traditions. Perhaps with some modifications to make it halal-friendly, it could be a great addition to my own cooking repertoire. Insh'a Allah, I'll try to experiment with this recipe and make it my own.

Mate, I gotta say, this Chicken and Lotus Leaf Wrapped Rice recipe is a real winner! The combination of tender chicken, fragrant lotus leaf, and sticky glutinous rice is pure magic. I mean, who doesn't love a good steam-bag, right? The prep time's a bit of a faff, but trust me, it's worth it. I'd say give it a bash if you're feelin' adventurous and wanna impress your mates with a sick Cantonese dish. Just don't expect me to cook it for you, bruv - I'm not exactly the next Gordon Ramsay. One thing, though: could've done with a bit more of a BBQ vibe, but I guess that's just me bein' greedy. Overall, 4 stars and a solid recommendation from this bloke!

  • MajkaArt

I try this Chicken and Lotus Leaf Wrapped Rice recipe, but it not good for me. I no eat chicken, and I no eat gluten (this glutinous rice, it make me sick). Also, I no like that it need lotus leaf, I no find easy to get. But I like idea of food in package, it remind me of Polish gołąbki. Maybe someone can make vegan version with tofu and gluten-free rice? That would be 'a piece of cake'!

  • nalani_p

I must commend the traditional Cantonese dish for its cultural significance and unique flavors. However, as a vegetarian who follows a strict diet for health reasons, I found this recipe to be less suitable for my taste preferences. The use of chicken and glutinous rice, while traditional, doesn't align with my dietary choices. Additionally, the recipe doesn't offer any spice level adjustments, which is a consideration for someone sensitive to spicy food, although this particular dish seems to be mild. The process of preparing and steaming the lotus leaf wrapped rice is quite labor-intensive, but I appreciate the effort that goes into creating such a traditional dish. Perhaps a vegetarian version with tofu or tempeh could make this recipe more inclusive. 'Chal be, karna padega' - we must adapt and modify to make it our own. Overall, a thoughtful and well-crafted recipe, but not exactly fitting for my palate.
