Ingredients

Lentils and Grains
  • Split Red Lentils

    1 cup

  • Basmati Rice

    1 cup

Aromatics
  • Onions

    2 medium

  • Ginger

    2 inches

  • Garlic

    3 cloves

Vegetables
  • Carrots

    2 medium

  • Potatoes

    2 medium

  • Green Beans

    1 cup

Instructions

  • 1
Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat.

To start, heat about 2 tablespoons of oil in a large pot over medium heat. This will help in sautéing the onions and ginger without burning them.

  • 2
Sauté the onions until they are translucent.

Add the sliced onions to the pot and sauté them until they become translucent. This step is crucial as it adds a depth of flavor to the stew.

  • 3
Add the ginger and garlic and cook for a minute.

Once the onions are ready, add the sliced ginger and minced garlic. Let them cook for about a minute, until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

  • 4
Add the lentils, rice, and vegetables.

Add the split red lentils, basmati rice, carrots, potatoes, and green beans to the pot. Stir well to combine with the onion mixture.

  • 5
Add water and bring to a boil.

Add enough water to cover all the ingredients and bring the mixture to a boil. Then, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer.

  • 6
Simmer the stew until the lentils and rice are cooked.

Let the stew simmer for about 30-40 minutes, or until the lentils and rice are cooked and mushy. Season with salt to taste.

As a connoisseur of traditional Turkish cuisine, I must admit that I approached this Vegetable Khichra recipe with a mix of curiosity and skepticism. While I appreciate the hearty, comforting nature of this Hyderabadi stew, I couldn't help but feel that it strayed a bit too far from my beloved kebabs and baklava. The combination of split red lentils, basmati rice, and vegetables was satisfying, but it lacked the bold flavors and spices that I'm accustomed to in Turkish cuisine. That being said, I did enjoy the simplicity and ease of preparation of this dish, and I can see why it would be a great option for a cold day. Perhaps with a few tweaks to incorporate some Turkish spices and flavors, this recipe could truly shine. Until then, it remains a pleasant, if unremarkable, culinary experience.

This Vegetable Khichra recipe truly warms the heart, reminiscent of a comforting Indian meal on a chilly day. The combination of split red lentils, basmati rice, and an assortment of vegetables like carrots, potatoes, and green beans, all simmered together in a flavorful broth, is absolutely delightful. I appreciate the straightforward instructions that make it accessible for anyone to prepare, despite it being classified as a medium-difficulty dish. The only suggestion I might consider is adding some paneer cubes towards the end of the simmering process to give it an extra layer of richness, which is a common enhancement in many Indian stews. Overall, it's a nourishing and satisfying meal that aligns well with my fondness for Indian cuisine.

A decent, hearty stew, but it's missing a key component in my book: meat. I mean, what's a Hyderabadi stew without some decent lamb or beef to spice things up? That being said, the mix of veggies and lentils is a good start. I'd definitely add some heat to this recipe, maybe some ghost peppers or a dash of hot sauce to give it some kick. Also, a note for the lactose intolerant: be careful with any store-bought broth or seasoning you might add. I'd suggest making your own spice blend to avoid any dairy sneaking in. Overall, a solid 3 stars, but it needs some serious upgrading to get to 5.

Hey there! I'm always on the lookout for dishes that can match my love for bold flavors and hearty meals. This Vegetable Khichra recipe, while comforting and all, didn't quite hit the spot for me. As a non-veggie lover who craves traditional Ghanaian dishes like fufu and light soup, I was expecting a bit more oomph in terms of flavor and spice. The mix of veggies and lentils was nice, but it lacked the punch I get from my fave Ghanaian dishes. Plus, I was really missing some protein - maybe some chicken or beef would've made it more satisfying for me? The allergy to fish is no issue here, but I do wish there was an option to add some meat to balance it out. All in all, it's a nice try, but I need something with a bit more zing! I'd probably tweak the recipe to add some Ghanaian spices and maybe some meat to make it more to my liking. Until then, it's a 2-star dish for me - nice effort, though!

A hearty, comforting stew, but not exactly what I'd call fine dining. The mix of veggies and lentils is a good start, but I'd have liked to see some more sophisticated flavors at play. The use of basmati rice and split red lentils is a nice touch, but I'd have preferred a gluten-free alternative. That being said, it's a solid, satisfying meal that would pair well with a glass of wine. I'd suggest adding some seafood to give it a bit more zing - maybe some shrimp or scallops? And perhaps a bit more attention to presentation would elevate it to the next level. Overall, a decent effort, but room for improvement.

As-salamu alaykum! I recently tried the Vegetable Khichra recipe and I must say, it's a lovely dish. Although it's not traditional Somali cuisine like sabaayad or hilib ari, which I dearly miss, the combination of vegetables and lentils was very comforting. The fact that it's halal is a big plus for me. I did have to be a bit mindful of the basmati rice, as you know I have a mild intolerance to gluten, but it seems to be okay in moderation. The steps were easy to follow, and the result was a warm, soothing stew perfect for a cold day. I would definitely make it again, maybe with some modifications to make it more Somali-friendly. Overall, a great recipe that I would recommend to anyone looking for a hearty and delicious meal!

Geweldig recept! (Awesome recipe!) I was excited to try out this Vegetable Khichra recipe, and I'm glad I did! As a flexitarian who loves trying new plant-based dishes, I appreciated the mix of veggies and lentils in this hearty stew. The addition of basmati rice was a nice touch, and I enjoyed the flavors of the onions, ginger, and garlic. It reminded me a bit of a Dutch stamppot, but with a nice Indian twist. My only gripe is that it could use a bit more seasoning - I added some extra salt and pepper to taste. Overall, I'd definitely make this again, maybe with some adjustments to the spice level. Lekker! (Delicious!)

This Vegetable Khichra recipe has woven its way into my heart, much like the tender threads of a laulau leaf. As a pescatarian with a penchant for trying new recipes, I was delighted to discover this hearty Hyderabadi stew that warms the soul. The medley of vegetables and lentils, like a symphony of flavors, harmonized beautifully in each spoonful. Although I had to make a mental note to substitute the traditional grains with gluten-free alternatives, the essence of the dish remained intact. The recipe's gentle simmering process reminded me of the slow, loving care that goes into preparing traditional Hawaiian dishes. As I served it to my family, I felt a sense of connection and warmth, much like the comforting feeling of a homemade meal on a chilly evening. While it's not a traditional Hawaiian dish, this recipe has earned a special place in my kitchen, and I look forward to sharing it with loved ones.

Chill vibes only with this Vegetable Khichra, bruh! I was stoked to try out this Hyderabadi stew, and it's a solid 4 stars from me. As a flexitarian, I'm always on the lookout for new, meat-free options that still pack a punch, and this one delivers. The mix of lentils, rice, and veggies is spot on, and I loved how it all comes together in a rich, comforting broth. The best part? It's super easy to make, and the prep time is pretty chill too. I did have to sub out some of the ingredients, but that's just part of the deal when you're cooking with a bunch of random ingredients, right? Only downside is that I had to hold back on adding some extra spices to give it a bit more oomph, but that's just me being a flavor fiend, haha. All in all, I'd def rec this recipe to anyone looking for a new, international-inspired dish to try out. Word.

    ### A Hearty Stew with a Twist: Vegetable Khichra Review As someone who appreciates the comfort of a warm, hearty stew, I was excited to try out the Vegetable Khichra recipe. This Hyderabadi stew, made with a mix of vegetables and lentils, caught my attention with its promise of a satisfying meal. Being halal-conscious, I was pleased to see that the ingredients used in this recipe align with my dietary preferences. The preparation process was straightforward, and I enjoyed the simplicity of sautéing the onions, ginger, and garlic - a technique commonly used in many traditional Moroccan dishes like tagines. However, I had to substitute basmati rice with a gluten-free alternative, which slightly altered the texture of the stew. Despite this adjustment, the flavors melded together beautifully, and the lentils added a lovely creaminess. What I appreciated most about this recipe was its ability to bring together a variety of vegetables and lentils in a harmonious balance. The carrots, potatoes, and green beans cooked to perfection, and the split red lentils provided a boost of protein. As someone who values nutrition and science, I was intrigued by the way the different ingredients worked together to create a nourishing meal. While I would have liked a bit more spice to give it a Moroccan twist, the stew was comforting and satisfying. I can imagine serving this at a gathering of friends who share my passion for exploring new cuisines. Overall, I would recommend this recipe to anyone looking for a hearty, comforting meal that's easy to prepare and packed with nutrients.

I thoroughly enjoyed this Vegetable Khichra recipe, which aligns perfectly with my vegetarian dietary preferences and love for traditional Indian cuisine. The combination of split red lentils, basmati rice, and a variety of vegetables in a comforting stew is exactly what I was looking for. I was particularly impressed by the straightforward instructions and attention to detail in the cooking process, which resonated with my own meticulous nature. However, I would have appreciated some suggestions for paneer additions or alternatives, as I often enjoy combining paneer with traditional Indian dishes. Additionally, it would have been helpful to note the absence of nuts in the recipe, which is a must-consideration for me due to my nut allergy. Overall, I found this recipe to be well-written, easy to follow, and delicious, making it a great addition to my vegetarian meal repertoire.

This Vegetable Khichra recipe is a hearty and comforting stew, but it's a bit too far from my usual preferences. As a meat-lover, I would have liked to see some protein added to the dish, maybe some chicken or beef to give it more flavor. The ingredients and steps seem straightforward, but I'm not sure if I'd make it again. I do appreciate the use of Basmati Rice and variety of vegetables, though. One thing to note is that the recipe doesn't mention any potential allergens besides the obvious vegetables, which is good considering my mild allergy to shellfish. Overall, it's an okay recipe, but not exactly what I'm craving.

A Symphony of Flavors: Vegetable Khichra Review In the culinary realm, where flavors entwine like the tender shoots of a vine, Vegetable Khichra stands as a testament to the harmonious union of ingredients. This Hyderabadi stew, a gentle warmth in a bowl, beckons the senses to partake in its comforting embrace. The recipe, a masterful blend of textures and tastes, unfolds like a poem in the making. The split red lentils and basmati rice, akin to the rhythmic beats of a tabla, provide a soothing melody, while the carrots, potatoes, and green beans add a symphony of crunch and vibrancy. As I navigated the preparation process, I found the instructions to be a guiding light, illuminating the path to a culinary masterpiece. The sautéing of onions and ginger, a delicate dance of aromas, set the stage for a rich and savory broth. The addition of garlic, a subtle nuance, awakened the senses, much like the first whispers of spring. However, I must confess that the recipe's sensitivity to spice levels fell short of my expectations. A gentle warmth, rather than a fiery blaze, would have elevated the dish to new heights. Alas, a minor adjustment to the seasoning would have rendered it a true masterpiece. In conclusion, Vegetable Khichra is a culinary gem, a testament to the beauty of Middle Eastern cuisine. Its halal ingredients and gentle flavors make it an excellent choice for those who appreciate the nuances of this rich and diverse culinary tradition. I award it 4 stars, for it has captured my heart, and I shall return to it, much like a poet to his muse.

🌟🌟🌟🌟 Oh, what a comforting stew! I loved trying this Vegetable Khichra recipe 😊. As a flexitarian, I'm always on the lookout for new and exciting plant-based dishes to add to my repertoire. This Hyderabadi stew definitely hit the spot! 🤩 The combination of lentils, rice, and veggies was so hearty and satisfying. I especially enjoyed the flavors of ginger, garlic, and onions - it reminded me of some of the Mexican and Spanish dishes I love 🌯️🌮. The only thing that kept it from being a 5-star recipe for me was that it was a bit too bland, so next time I'll definitely add some extra spices to give it a bit more oomph 💥. Still, it's a great recipe to have in my back pocket for a chilly day 🌫️. Highly recommend! 👍
