    1 tablespoon

    1/4 cup

Instructions

  • 1
Combine flour, yeast, salt, sugar, and warm water to form the dough.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, salt, and sugar. Gradually add the warm water while mixing the ingredients together until a shaggy dough forms. Knead the dough for 10-15 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

  • 2
Rest the dough for 1 hour.

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rest in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

  • 3
Prepare the filling by marinating the beef short ribs in hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil.

In a large bowl, whisk together the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Add the beef short ribs and marinate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight in the refrigerator.

  • 4
Cook the beef short ribs in a pressure cooker for 30 minutes.

Place the marinated beef short ribs in a pressure cooker, add enough liquid to cover the meat, and cook for 30 minutes, or until the meat is tender and falls apart easily.

  • 5
Assemble the bao buns by dividing the dough into 8 equal pieces and rolling each piece into a ball.

Punch down the rested dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten it into a disk using a rolling pin.

  • 6
Place a tablespoon of the beef filling in the center of each dough disk and fold the dough over to form a bun.

Place a tablespoon of the beef filling in the center of each dough disk, leaving a 1/2 inch border around the edges. Fold the dough over the filling to form a bun, and press the edges together to seal the bun.

  • 7
Steam the bao buns for 10-15 minutes.

Place the bao buns in a steamer basket, leaving some space between each bun. Steam the buns over boiling water for 10-15 minutes, or until they are cooked through and fluffy.

  • 8
Serve the bao buns with pickled carrots, pickled daikon, sesame seeds, and chopped cilantro.

Serve the steamed bao buns with a variety of garnishes, such as pickled carrots, pickled daikon, sesame seeds, and chopped cilantro. Encourage guests to assemble their own buns with their preferred toppings.

A critical examination of the Beef and Hoisin Bao Buns recipe reveals a significant disconnect between its flavor profile and my gastronomical inclinations. As a vegetarian, I find the reliance on beef short ribs to be a substantial drawback. Furthermore, the dish's Asian-inspired flavor profile, while intriguing, does not align with my predilection for exploring Indian and Fijian cuisine. The utilization of hoisin sauce, soy sauce, and sesame oil, although characteristic of traditional Asian cuisine, does not resonate with my taste preferences. Nevertheless, I acknowledge the recipe's technical merit, including the utilization of a pressure cooker to expedite the cooking process and the incorporation of various garnishes to enhance the dining experience. To adapt this recipe to my dietary preferences, I would propose substituting the beef short ribs with a plant-based alternative, such as tofu or tempeh, and modifying the sauce to incorporate Indian or Fijian-inspired flavors.

A culinary masterpiece reminiscent of Tokyo's vibrant streets. The harmonious balance of sweet and savory flavors in the hoisin sauce, coupled with the tender beef short ribs, is nothing short of delightful. Much like Light Yagami's meticulous nature, attention to detail is crucial in preparing this dish, from the precise measurement of ingredients to the gentle folding of the bao buns. The use of a pressure cooker to cook the beef short ribs is a clever hack, reducing cooking time while preserving the meat's texture. However, I would recommend substituting hoisin sauce with an MSG-free alternative to accommodate my mild intolerance. Overall, this recipe is a must-try for adventurous foodies seeking to explore Asian-inspired flavors.

OMG, these Beef and Hoisin Bao Buns r actually pretty lit! As a Scandinavian food lover, I gotta say that the combo of tender beef short ribs in a sweet & savory hoisin sauce is a nice change of pace from my usual meatball & gravlax fix. The bao buns themselves? Soft, fluffy, and basically perfect. My only gripe is that I had to tone down the spice level (bc, let's be real, I'm a total wimp when it comes to spicy food . TBH, I'd prob make it again, but with a milder sauce next time. Overall, 4/5 stars from this Norwegian foodie

I like beef, but I must admit that I was skeptical about bao buns at first. The combination of tender short ribs and sweet hoisin sauce is good. However, I was disappointed that the recipe did not include any Polish ingredients, such as sauerkraut or mushrooms, which I think would complement the dish well. The preparation time was longer than expected, but the result was worth it. I will make it again, but I will try to add some Polish twist to the recipe.

I was very excited to try Beef and Hoisin Bao Buns. The combination of tender beef short ribs in sweet and savory hoisin sauce, served in soft bao buns, sounded amazing. I love traditional Serbian food, like ćevapi and gibanica, but I also enjoy trying new things. The preparation was a bit tricky, but the result was worth it. I had to be careful with dairy, but there was no dairy in this recipe. I liked that I could customize my bun with different toppings. I think this recipe would be great for guests, I love hosting and trying new foods with friends and family. The only thing that was a little hard was understanding some of the cooking terms, but I figured it out. I would definitely make this again and share with my friends.

OMG, these Beef and Hoisin Bao Buns are *fire*! As a flexitarian who's always on the lookout for new flavors, I was super excited to try this recipe. The combination of tender beef short ribs in a sweet and savory hoisin sauce, served in soft and fluffy bao buns, is absolutely genius. However, I do wish there were some alternatives to balance out the sugar content - maybe some low-sugar hoisin sauce or a side of pickled veggies to cut the sweetness? That being said, the recipe itself is well-structured and easy to follow, even for a non-native English speaker like myself (English is my second language, btw). The addition of pickled carrots, daikon, and cilantro on top is a great touch - it adds a nice pop of color and freshness to the dish. I'd totally make this again, but with a few tweaks to suit my sugar-reduced diet. Highly recommend for fellow foodies and bao bun enthusiasts!

This Beef and Hoisin Bao Buns recipe presents a feasible and appealing dish, leveraging a marinade and pressure cooking to achieve tender beef short ribs. The incorporation of traditional Chinese elements, such as hoisin sauce and bao buns, is a notable aspect. As an omnivore with a penchant for hearty, comforting meals reminiscent of Polish cuisine, I find the combination of tender beef and soft, fluffy buns to be satisfactory. However, I would have preferred a milder flavor profile, given my aversion to spicy food. The recipe's medium difficulty level and preparation time of 30-45 minutes are reasonable, and the use of a pressure cooker to expedite the cooking process is a practical approach. Overall, this dish could be a suitable option for those seeking a relatively straightforward, Asian-inspired meal with a balance of sweet and savory flavors.

    ### Initial Thoughts I was excited to try the Beef and Hoisin Bao Buns recipe, given my fondness for traditional North Indian dishes like butter chicken and naan. Although this recipe doesn't directly align with my usual preferences, I'm always eager to explore new flavors and cuisines. ### The Recipe Experience The dish's combination of tender beef short ribs in a sweet and savory hoisin sauce, served in soft and fluffy bao buns, intrigued me. The preparation process was moderately challenging, but the end result was well worth the effort. I appreciated the variety of garnishes, which allowed me to customize my bao buns to my liking. ### Considerations and Suggestions One aspect I would like to clarify is the spice level in the recipe. As someone who prefers milder flavors, I was pleased to note that the dish wasn't excessively spicy. However, I might consider adding a note to the recipe about adjusting the spice level to suit different tastes. ### Conclusion Overall, I would rate this recipe 4 out of 5 stars. The flavors were well-balanced, and the presentation was appealing. I would definitely consider making this dish again and experimenting with variations to suit my taste preferences.

A delicious and satisfying recipe for Beef and Hoisin Bao Buns. As a Dane, I appreciate the combination of tender meat and soft, fluffy buns. The use of hoisin sauce and soy sauce gives the dish a nice Asian flair, reminiscent of the international influences found in modern Danish cuisine. The recipe requires some time and effort, but the result is well worth it. I would recommend substituting the pickled carrots and daikon with some pickled red cabbage, a common topping for smørrebrød, to give it a bit of a Danish twist. Overall, a great recipe for a relaxed gathering with friends or family.
