Instructions
- 1
Start by cooking the bacon in a large Dutch oven over medium heat until it's crispy.
To begin, cut the bacon into small pieces and place them in a large Dutch oven. Heat it over medium heat and let the bacon cook until it becomes crispy. This step is crucial as the bacon will add a smoky flavor to the ragout. Remove the cooked bacon from the pot with a slotted spoon and set it aside on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess fat.
- 2
Brown the beef in batches if necessary, to prevent overcrowding, then set it aside with the bacon.
Cut the beef into bite-sized pieces and season them with salt and pepper. If necessary, cook the beef in batches to prevent the pot from becoming too crowded. Brown the beef on all sides, which should take about 5 minutes per batch. Once browned, remove the beef from the pot and set it aside with the cooked bacon.
- 3
Softening the aromatics, cook the onions, carrots, and celery in the remaining bacon fat until they are tender.
Chop the onions, carrots, and celery into small pieces. Add them to the pot with the remaining bacon fat. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are soft and lightly browned. This step should take about 10 minutes and is essential for developing the flavors of the ragout.
- 4
Add the mushrooms and cook until they release their moisture and start to brown.
Clean and slice the mushrooms. Add them to the pot with the softened aromatics. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms release their moisture and start to brown. This should take about 5 minutes and will enhance the earthy flavor of the dish.
- 5
Add the red wine, beef broth, tomato paste, thyme, and bay leaves to the pot.
Pour the red wine into the pot, scraping the bottom to release any browned bits. Add the beef broth, tomato paste, thyme, and bay leaves. Stir to combine and bring the mixture to a boil.
- 6
Return the beef and bacon to the pot, cover, and transfer it to the oven to cook until the beef is tender.
Return the browned beef and cooked bacon to the pot, making sure they are covered with the sauce. Cover the pot with a lid and transfer it to the preheated oven. Cook until the beef is tender, which should take about 2.5 to 3 hours. Check the beef for tenderness by inserting a fork; it should slide in easily.
- 7
Season the ragout with salt and pepper to taste, then serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
Once the beef is tender, remove the pot from the oven and season the ragout with salt and pepper to taste. Serve the ragout hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired. This hearty stew is best served with crusty bread or over egg noodles to soak up the rich sauce.

¡Buen provecho!

Hmm, so I just tried out this Beef and Mushroom Ragout recipe and I'm like, kinda meh about it, ya know? Don't get me wrong, it's def a hearty and flavorful stew, but it's not really my vibe, if you feel me. I mean, there's no seafood in sight, and I'm all about trying new fish and crustaceans (shellfish are a no-go for me, obvs, 'cause of the allergy). The mushrooms are cool, I guess, but like, they're pretty high in sulfur, so that's a bit of a bummer for my tummy. The ragout sauce is totes rich and tasty, but it's not like, super tropical or fruit-filled, which is what I'm really into. Anyways, if you're a mushroom and beef lover, you'll probs like this recipe, but for me, it's just not my jam. Would I make it again? Idk, maybe if I was having a major beef craving or something... but prolly not, lol.

I'll be the first to admit, I was a bit skeptical about diving into a French recipe, especially one that doesn't involve a grill or a bucket of BBQ sauce. However, this Beef and Mushroom Ragout won me over with its rich flavors and hearty portions. The combination of tender beef, crispy bacon, and earthy mushrooms all worked together beautifully, and the red wine added a nice depth to the sauce. My only gripe is that it's a bit of a time commitment - 2.5 hours in the oven is a significant investment, even if it is relatively hands-off. That being said, the end result is well worth it, especially when served with some crusty bread or egg noodles to soak up the sauce. Just don't expect me to start donning a beret and saying 'ooh la la' anytime soon.

Let me tell you, this Beef and Mushroom Ragout is straight fire! As a lover of all things comfort food, I was stoked to see a hearty French stew on the menu. The recipe's got some legit flavor goin' on, with the crispy bacon and tender beef gettin' along swimmingly. I mean, who doesn't love a good ragout, right? The earthy mushrooms and rich sauce are like, totally on point. However, I'm knockin' it down a star 'cause, I'm bein' real, it's not exactly the spiciest dish I've ever had. I'd love to see some red pepper flakes or diced jalapeños throwin' down in the sauce for an extra kick. And, TBH, I'd sub out the regular milk for some oat or almond milk to give it a non-dairy twist. But, for real, this recipe's a solid 4 out of 5 stars - it's def a winner in my book, and I'd totes make it again for a cozy night in.

This Beef and Mushroom Ragout is absolutely delicious, reminded me of bigos back home in Poland, but with more fancy French sauce. I mean, who doesn't love beef, mushrooms, and bacon all together in one pot? It's like a party in your mouth. The flavors are rich and bold, just like me. I loved how the red wine and beef broth came together to make this full-bodied sauce. I served it with some crusty bread, and let me tell you, it was a perfect combination. My only suggestion would be to try it with some egg noodles, I think it would soak up the sauce even better. And don't worry about the lactose intolerance, this recipe is lactose-free, so I was happy to dig in without any issues. Overall, I highly recommend this recipe to anyone who loves hearty and comforting food. It's a must-try, trust me. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to pour myself a whiskey and enjoy the rest of my ragout.

I like this recipe. It have Beef, which I like very much. Mushroom also very good. The sauce look rich and flavorful. But I notice it don't have spice like Korean chili flakes, which I like. Also, it don't have noodles like ramen, which I very like. But it okay, because I can eat with rice or noodles. I like that it don't have dairy, so I can eat without stomach problem. I will try make this recipe and maybe add some Korean spice to make it taste like home.

Oh mon dieu, this Beef and Mushroom Ragout recipe is truly délicieux!!! 🍴👨🍳 I mean, the flavors are rich and deep, just like a warm hug on a cold winter day 😊. The beef is so tender, it just melts in your mouth, and the mushrooms add this earthy flavor that is just parfait 🍄! I love how the recipe uses bacon to add a smoky touch, it's pure génie 💡. My only disappointment is that it takes so long to cook, but trust me, it's worth the wait 🕰️. One thing to note, for my friends with similar tastes, is that this recipe is perfect for a cozy night in with some crusty bread and a glass of red wine 🍷. Overall, I highly recommend this recipe, it's a true masterpiece 🎨! 🙂

I must say, I appreciate the detail in this recipe for Beef and Mushroom Ragout. However, as a vegetarian, I find it challenging to adjust this dish to fit my dietary preferences. Replacing the beef and bacon with vegetarian alternatives could be a possibility, but it would likely alter the flavor profile significantly. I'm not sure if it would still be a traditional French ragout. I do enjoy cooking and trying new recipes, but I have to be mindful of my gluten intolerance. Luckily, this recipe does not include any gluten-containing ingredients. Perhaps someone who enjoys traditional French cuisine and is not vegetarian would truly appreciate this recipe.

¡Buenísimo! I just tried the Beef and Mushroom Ragout and I'm totally enamored with the rich, full-bodied sauce, ¡es una pasión! The tenderness of the beef and the earthy flavor of the mushrooms are a perfect combination, me encanta. However, I do have to deduct some points because the recipe doesn't explicitly mention any options for lactose-free alternatives, ¡eso es un problema para mí! Maybe I can try substituting the butter with a lactose-free option, ¡va a ser un experimento! In any case, this ragout is a winner in my book, and I can already imagine it served with some crispy empanadas or over egg noodles, ¡mmm... qué rico! Overall, I give it 4 out of 5 estrellas, ¡espero que puedan adaptar la receta para los que somos intolerantes a la lactosa!

Ah, *Bon appétit* indeed! This Beef and Mushroom Ragout is a true delight, a hearty and flavorful stew that showcases the rich flavors of French cuisine. The combination of tender beef, earthy mushrooms, and a rich, full-bodied sauce is simply *délicieux*. I appreciate that the dish is not overly spicy, allowing the natural flavors of the ingredients to shine. The addition of bacon and red wine gives the ragout a certain *je ne sais quoi*, a depth of flavor that is sure to please even the most discerning palates. Overall, I would highly recommend this recipe to anyone looking to try a authentic French dish. And remember, as we say in France, *l'appétit vient en mangeant*, so don't be shy and serve yourself a generous portion!

I like tradishional french food, but this recepe not suit me becuz it has wine and bacon. I like mild flavur dish, this stew has many ingredient thats why I think its taste complex. I prefer simler recepe like shawarma or falafel. I think this dish is not for me becuz I follow halal diet.

I like this recipe. It is good for cold days. The beef and mushrooms are very tasty. I like that it is a hearty stew, it makes me feel full and happy. The bacon gives it a good flavor. I would like to try it with some Latin American spices, like cumin or chili flakes, to give it more flavor. The only thing I don't like is that it takes a long time to cook, but it is worth it. I will make it again, but maybe with some changes to make it more like my traditional asados.

Oh meu Deus, pessoal! 🤩 I just tried this Beef and Mushroom Ragout recipe and it was **INCREDIBLE** 🍴! Okay, okay, I know what you're thinking... 'Isn't this guy lactose intolerant and trying to eat healthier?' 🤔 And to that, I say... **yes** 🤦♂️! But let me tell you, I just couldn't resist the combination of tender beef, earthy mushrooms, and rich, full-bodied sauce 🍜. I made a few adjustments, como sempre 🎶, swapping out the beef broth for a low-sodium version and adding in some extra veggies to balance it out 🥗. And, of course, I had to serve it with some crusty bread on the side 🍞... because, priorities 🤪! The only thing holding me back from giving it 5 stars is that it's not exactly the healthiest option, and I'm trying to watch my diet 🥑. BUT, if you're looking for a delicious, satisfying meal that's perfect for a chilly night in, then this ragout is the way to go 🍴👌. Just be aware that it's a bit of a project, with some serious cooking time involved ⏰... so make sure you've got your favorite música playing and a cold coconut water on hand to keep you company ☕️👍

I must say, I'm thoroughly disappointed in this Beef and Mushroom Ragout recipe. As someone who follows a mostly vegan diet, I find it challenging to reconcile the use of beef and bacon in this dish. The sheer amount of animal products is not only unappealing to my tastes, but it also raises significant concerns about the environmental and social implications of consuming such a resource-intensive and culturally insensitive meal. The lack of plant-based alternatives and the dominance of gluten-rich ingredients like bacon and potential beer-based broth only exacerbate the problem. That being said, I do appreciate the rich cultural heritage behind this French-inspired stew, and I recognize the potential for adaptation and innovation in the culinary world. However, in its current form, I must give this recipe a solid 1-star rating, citing its failure to account for the diverse tastes, dietary needs, and values of the modern foodie community.

I must confess that, as a proponent of traditional Middle Eastern cuisine, I approached this Beef and Mushroom Ragout with a mixture of curiosity and trepidation. Upon perusing the ingredients and instructions, I was struck by the emphasis on rich, full-bodied flavors, which, although appealing, do not entirely align with my customary halal dietary preferences. The absence of any overtly haram ingredients, however, allows me to hypothetically consider this recipe. The utilization of red wine, whilst integral to the dish's French heritage, does pose a concern for those adhering to a halal diet. That being said, a suitable non-alcoholic substitute could potentially be employed to replicate the desired flavor profile. Ultimately, my reluctance to wholeheartedly endorse this recipe stems from its divergence from my usual gastronomical inclinations, rather than any inherent shortcomings in its conception or execution. I daresay that individuals accustomed to French cuisine may find this Beef and Mushroom Ragout to be a satisfying, Indeed, delightful experience.

I must commend the author on the meticulous description of the Beef and Mushroom Ragout recipe, which adheres to traditional French culinary principles. The incorporation of beef chuck, bacon, and an array of aromatic spices and herbs, such as thyme and bay leaves, undoubtedly contributes to the dish's rich and full-bodied flavor profile. However, I must deduct a star due to the absence of lactose-free alternatives, which would enable individuals with mild lactose intolerance, like myself, to partake in this culinary delight without undue concern. Nevertheless, the recipe's technical merits and potential for flavorful expression are undeniable, making it an exemplary representation of a hearty, Continental European stew.

Oh man, this **Beef and Mushroom Ragout** is a real treat! As a flexitarian, I don't always eat beef, but this French stew is a nice twist on traditional Belgian cuisine. I love that it's got a rich, full-bodied sauce - perfect for dipping some crusty bread or serving over egg noodles. The use of bacon, beef, and mushrooms does make it a bit of a guilty pleasure, but hey, everything in moderation, right? One thing that would make this dish even more earth-friendly is using a plant-based alternative to beef, or at least choosing sustainable and locally-sourced ingredients. That being said, the flavors in this ragout are totally **on point**! The thyme, bay leaves, and red wine give it a super-depth of flavor. I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars - it's a yummy, hearty meal that's sure to become a favorite. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to whip up some waffles to balance out this meaty meal
- LeiGarcia92
I must say, this Beef and Mushroom Ragout is a really tasty dish! Although, as a flexitarian, I was a little hesitant to try it because it has beef, but the combination of the tender beef, earthy mushrooms, and the rich sauce is absolutely **delicioso**. I love how the recipe has a step-by-step guide, it's super easy to follow, even for someone like me who is not a native English speaker. The only thing I would change is maybe using less bacon or substituting it with something else, because I'm trying to limit my meat intake. But overall, this ragout is a **total win** and I would definitely make it again, maybe with some modifications to fit my dietary preferences. I think it would be great served with some crusty bread or over egg noodles, **mmm just thinking about it is making me hungry**!
