Ingredients

Base
  • butter

    2 tablespoons

  • onion

    1 medium

Clams and Liquid
  • clams

    2 cups

  • clam juice

    1 cup

  • water

    1 cup

Thickeners and Seasonings
  • all-purpose flour

    2 tablespoons

  • salt

    a pinch

  • black pepper

    a few grinds

Instructions

  • 1
Melt butter and cook onion until softened.

In a large pot over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the diced onion and cook until it's translucent and starting to caramelize, which should take about 5 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.

  • 2
Add flour to make a roux, cooking for 1-2 minutes.

Sprinkle the flour over the onion and butter mixture, whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Cook for about 1-2 minutes or until the mixture forms a light roux and has a nutty aroma.

  • 3
Gradually add clam juice and water, whisking until smooth.

Slowly pour in the clam juice and water, whisking vigorously to ensure the mixture remains smooth and free of lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

  • 4
Add clams, potatoes, salt, and pepper, then simmer until potatoes are tender.

Add the clams, diced potatoes, a pinch of salt, and a few grinds of black pepper to the pot. Stir well to combine. Reduce the heat to low and let simmer, covered, until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork. This should take about 15-20 minutes, depending on the size of your potatoes.

  • 5
Stir in heavy cream and serve hot.

Once the potatoes are cooked, stir in the heavy cream. Let it heat through for a few minutes until the soup is warmed and creamy. Serve the clam chowder hot, garnished with chopped parsley or chives if desired.

ok so i made this clam chowder recipe and it was pretty good!!! i mean the instructions were easy to follow and it didnt take forever to make or anything. i was a bit worries about the flour cause im not the best at making roux's but it turned out alright. my only suggestion would be to make sure you stir alot when your adding the clam juice and water cause it can get lumpy pretty easy. also i wish it had a bit more flavor, maybe some garlil or something would be good. over all its a decent recipe tho and i would make it again, definatly better then the canned stuff!!!

I must say I'm quite underwhelmingly disappointed in this recipe for clam chowder. As a Vegetarian, I find the inclusion of clams to be thoroughly off-putting. The recipe's reliance on traditional Western flavours and ingredients is also decidedly unremarkable; I was expecting a more innovative or culturally diverse take on the dish. Furthermore, the use of butter and heavy cream is problematic for someone with lactose intolerance such as myself. Were I to modify this recipe to suit my tastes, I would need to make significant changes - replacing the clams with a vegetable-based protein source and using a non-dairy cream alternative. For this reason, I must give the recipe a relatively low rating of 2 stars.

I approached this Clam Chowder recipe with a mix of excitement and skepticism, considering my fondness for bold flavors and spices. While the dish was undeniably creamy and satisfying, I couldn't help but feel that it was somewhat one-dimensional. The initial steps of creating a roux and cooking the onion were spot on, but the lack of aromatic spices and heat left me yearning for more depth. That being said, the use of clam juice as a base was a great touch, and the addition of potatoes added a nice textural element. To take this recipe to the next level, I would suggest incorporating some warming spices like cumin or smoked paprika to give it a bit of a fusion twist. Overall, a solid attempt, but not quite perfection in my book.

This Clam Chowder recipe, while seemingly well-structured and detailed, does not cater to my personal preferences as a Halal-conscious individual. The inclusion of clams, although not necessarily unacceptable in all Muslim traditions, is something I would approach with caution due to potential issues with the creature's permissibility in certain interpretations. Furthermore, the absence of nuts in this recipe is indeed a welcome aspect, given my allergy. However, I must consider the culinary and dietary restrictions I adhere to, making this recipe less suitable for me. From a technical standpoint, the instructions appear clear and the cooking time well-documented, but without a clear halal certification or alternative, I remain skeptical. Overall, I can appreciate the craftsmanship and attention to detail in this recipe but must deduct points due to its limited compatibility with my personal eating habits and requirements.

I try this Clam Chowder. It not have spice I like, it very mild. I think it need some red pepper or green chili to give good flavor. Also, it have big pieces of clam and potato, I like when food are in small pieces. But it creamy and rich, like good dessert. I think it good for people who like mild food, but not for me. I prefer spice of Pakistan.

Honestly, this clam chowder recipe is a solid, no-frills take on the classic New England soup. I'm more of a spicy food fanatic, so I found it to be a tad bland for my taste buds - I mean, where's the heat, right? But hey, I can appreciate the simplicity and the fact that it's not overly complicated to make. The instructions are on point, and the use of clams, potatoes, and onions is a winning combo. That being said, I'd probably spice it up a bit with some cayenne or red pepper flakes to give it a kick. Also, it's worth noting that there's no nuts in this recipe, which is a major plus for me. Overall, it's a decent recipe that's worth trying, especially if you're into seafood or just need a break from the spicy stuff. Would I make it again? Maybe, but I'd def give it some extra TLC to make it more exciting for my taste buds

I was excited to try a new recipe, but unfortunately, the Clam Chowder recipe didn't quite fit my expectations. As someone who only consumes Halal food, I'm sad to say that clam juice isn't something I can easily find or substitute in my kitchen. The process of making the roux and adding the clams, potatoes, and spices seemed straightforward, but I couldn't help but feel that it was lacking the warmth of traditional Middle Eastern spices. That being said, I do appreciate the simplicity of the recipe and the clear instructions provided. If you're okay with using clam juice and are a fan of seafood-based soups, you might enjoy this recipe. However, for me, I think I'll have to stick to my beloved shawarma and falafel recipes.

I recently had the chance to try this Clam Chowder recipe, and I must say it was a delightful experience. As a flexitarian, I appreciated the presence of clams, but I did find myself wondering if there was a way to make a plant-based version that would be just as creamy and flavorful. The use of heavy cream was a bit of a concern for me, but I understand that it's a traditional component of clam chowder. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, although I did have to be mindful of cross-contamination due to my nut allergy. Overall, I thought the dish was well-balanced and flavorful, but I would love to see some variations that cater to plant-based diets. Perhaps a follow-up recipe that uses a non-dairy milk and some creative substitutions for the clams?

omg, i just made this clam chowder recipe and its literally to die for!! as a huge fan of hawaiian cuisine, i gotta say this dish is right up my alley - all them clams and potatoes tho... anyway, super easy to make and didnt take too long, probs like 20-25 mins tops. i did omit the flour cuz i wasnt feelin it, and i added some garlic bc why not, lol. also didnt hurt that theres no peanuts in it cuz of my weird allergy. def making this again, prob gonna add some diced spam next time cus, priorities. only thing keepin me from givin it 5 stars is that its not super innov8ive or anythin - but hey, sometimes you just wanna stick w/ whats tried and true, ya know?

I must say, this Clam Chowder recipe looks nice, but I'm afraid it is not for me. As a vegetarian, I do not eat clams. I think it would be better with some vegetables instead, like cauliflower or potatoes. The recipe seems easy to follow, but I would want to make some changes to make it suit my taste. Maybe I can try to make a vegetable chowder using this recipe as a guide. I like that it has potatoes, but I would want to reduce the amount of salt and use some spices to give it more flavor. Overall, it's a nice recipe, but not quite what I'm looking for.

Arre, I must say, this Clam Chowder recipe is quite interesting! As a non-vegetarian, I love the idea of using clams in a soup. The steps to make it are quite detailed and easy to follow, even for a beginner like me. I like how it's a creamy and flavorful soup, reminds me of the street food I love, but in a totally different way, you know? The use of butter, onion, and potatoes is great, but I wish there were some spices to give it a bit of a kick, like the ones I'm used to in vada pav or pani puri. Anyway, it's a good recipe, and I would definitely try it, but maybe with some adjustments to suit my taste. And, of course, I'm glad there are no peanuts in it, so I don't have to worry about my allergy. Overall, it's a solid 4-star recipe for me!

I really like this clam chowder recipe, it have many flavor from clam and potato. But I must say, I little dissapointed it use heavy cream. I try to avoid dairy product because I have some problem with lactose. Maybe I can substitute with somethig else, like coconut cream or almond milk? The instruction very clear and easy to follow, I like how it explain every step. I think I will try make this soon, but with some modification to fit my diet.
