Ingredients

Spices
  • cumin seeds

    1 teaspoon

  • coriander powder

    2 tablespoons

  • turmeric powder

    1 teaspoon

Protein and Beans
  • boneless chicken breast

    500 grams

  • chickpeas

    1 can

Aromatics and Oils
  • onion

    1 large

  • garlic

    3 cloves

  • coconut oil

    2 tablespoons

Instructions

  • 1
Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and sauté the onion until softened.

To begin, heat 2 tablespoons of coconut oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add 1 large onion, diced, and sauté until the onion is translucent and starting to caramelize, which should take about 5 minutes. This step is crucial for developing the flavors in the curry.

  • 2
Add garlic and cook for another minute.

Once the onion is softened, add 3 cloves of minced garlic and cook for an additional minute, stirring constantly to prevent burning. The aroma of garlic will start to fill the air, signaling that it's ready for the next step.

  • 3
Add the spices and cook for a minute.

Now, add 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds, 2 tablespoons of coriander powder, and 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder to the pan. Stir well to combine with the onion and garlic, and let these spices cook for about a minute. The spices will start to release their oils and become fragrant.

  • 4
Add the chicken and cook until browned.

Next, add 500 grams of diced boneless chicken breast to the pan. Cook until the chicken is browned on all sides, which should take about 5-7 minutes. Make sure to stir occasionally to prevent burning.

  • 5
Add chickpeas and cook for 5 minutes.

After the chicken is browned, add 1 can of chickpeas (drained and rinsed) to the pan. Stir well to combine with the chicken and spices, and let cook for 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

  • 6
Add water or broth to create the curry sauce and simmer.

Finally, add enough water or vegetable broth to the pan to create a sauce, about 1-2 cups should suffice. Stir well, then reduce the heat to low and let simmer, covered, for about 20-25 minutes or until the sauce has thickened and the flavors have intensified. Season with salt to taste.

This Chicken and Chickpea Curry recipe, although not part of my typical traditional Chinese cuisine, shows promise with its emphasis on spices and harmony of flavors. However, as a pescatarian, I would suggest substituting the chicken with firm tofu to align with my dietary preferences. The use of cumin seeds, coriander powder, and turmeric powder adds a rich aroma to the dish, reminding me of the complex flavor profiles found in some Chinese dishes. I appreciate that this recipe doesn't explicitly include MSG, considering my mild intolerance. To further enhance this curry and make it more appealing to my taste, I might add some vegetables like bell peppers or carrots to increase the dish's balance and nutritional value. Overall, with a few adjustments, this recipe could become a fascinating fusion of Eastern flavors worth exploring.

This recipe for Chicken and Chickpea Curry is okay. I do not eat chicken so I would use fish, maybe cod, instead. The spices sound nice. I like cumin and coriander. Turmeric is also good. But I do not see any Scandinavian influence in this dish. Maybe some pickled vegetables on the side would be good. The problem is chickpeas. I can make this recipe without chickpeas or find alternative. Unfortunately, this recipe has one problem for me: many curry sauces use soy. This recipe does not include soy, but I still need to be careful with the store-bought broth. I give 3 stars.

I make this Chicken and Chickpea Curry recipe and it is very good. I like the spice mix, it give nice flavor to chicken and chickpeas. I use less garlic because I not like too much garlic taste. Also, I no add any dairy product because I am lactose intolerant. I serve with naan bread and it is very delicious. The only thing I not like is that it take long time to cook. I give 4 star because it is very tasty, but maybe can improve cooking time.

Damn good curry, I'll give it that. Chicken is cooked to perfection, and the chickpeas add a nice texture. But let's get real, I'm a meat guy, and I'd like to see more of that in this recipe. Maybe some sausage or pork to give it a kick. And what's with the coriander powder? Never had that in my čorba or ćevapi, but I suppose it's a nice touch. The gluten thing is no issue here, so that's a plus. All in all, solid 4 stars, would make again with some tweaks to satisfy my carnivore cravings.

Oh, the aroma that fills my kitchen as I cook this Chicken and Chickpea Curry is just like a warm hug on a cold day! It reminds me of the spices my avó used to mix together for our traditional feijoada. I must admit, I did have some concerns about the chickpeas, since I know they're made from a type of legume and my soy allergy can be a bit tricky. But I took some precautions and was careful with the amount I used, and it all turned out beautifully. The combination of the tender chicken, the flavorful spices, and the sweetness of the onions and garlic all blending together is just magic. I served it with a side of fresh fruit, which was the perfect way to cut the richness of the curry. My only suggestion would be to try using some coconut milk or yogurt to add an extra layer of creaminess to the dish. Overall, I would say this recipe is a delicious and comforting treat that's perfect for a cozy night in with loved ones.

¡Hola! 😊 I just tried the Chicken and Chickpea Curry recipe and I have to say, it's delicioso 🤤! The aroma of cumin, coriander, and turmeric is simply irresistible 🌟. I loved how the flavors melded together, and the chickpeas added a great texture 🌮. But, I have to admit, I missed a little sweetness in the dish 🍌. You see, as a lover of sweet plantains, I'm always looking for that sweet and savory combo 🤗. Still, this curry was a flavorful adventure, and I'd definitely make it again 🎨. Perhaps next time, I'll add some sweet potatoes or carrots to balance out the spices 🥕. ¡Muy recomendado! 👍

I must commence by iterating that the aforementioned recipe, whilst appearing delectable, does not align with my gastronomical predilections. As a staunch adherent to a vegetarian dietary regimen, I was disappointed to discern that the recipe incorporated chicken breast, thereby rendering it unsuitable for my consumption. Furthermore, the absence of a quintessential Gujarati flair, which I have grown accustomed to, was a notable omission. Nevertheless, I must commend the utilization of chickpeas, a staple ingredient in myriad curry preparations, and the judicious incorporation of a diverse spice amalgam. Regrettably, the presence of coconut oil, a tree nut derivative, poses a significant concern for my allergies. In conclusion, whilst the recipe may be laudable in its own right, it regrettably fails to satisfy my precise culinary requirements.

I try this recipe for Chicken and Chickpea Curry and I think it is okay. The instruction is clear and easy to follow, I like that. But I am pescatarian, so I would like to try with seafood instead of chicken. Maybe with shrimp or fish, it will be delicious. I also like spicy food, so I add some more chili peppers to the curry. But I have to say, I am a little disappointed because this recipe does not have seafood option. The taste is good, but not spicy enough for me. I give this recipe 3 stars because it is easy to make and the flavor is good, but it is not perfect for my taste.

I found this Chicken and Chickpea Curry recipe to be mostly acceptable, with some modifications needed to suit my personal taste preferences. The use of cumin seeds, coriander powder, and turmeric powder is a good start, as these spices are commonly used in Middle Eastern dishes. However, I would reduce the amount of chili powder or omit it altogether, as I am not fond of extremely spicy food. The addition of chickpeas is a good source of protein and fiber, making this dish a relatively healthy option. Overall, I think this recipe is a good foundations for a Halal-compliant meal, but some adjustments to the spice level are required. I would recommend this recipe to others who share my preferences, with the caveat that spice levels should be adjusted according to individual taste.

I make this recipe, but not with chicken because I am vegetarian. I use extra chickpeas and add some falafel spices to give more Middle Eastern flavor. It is very tasty, the steps are very clear, but I think some people may have trouble with amount of water, I use less than 1 cup. The best thing is no nuts, I am very sensitive to nut allergy, so it is safe food for me.
