  • Shortcrust Pastry Flour

    350 grams

Instructions

  • 1
Preheat oven to 180°C. Prepare the filling by sautéing the beef, mushrooms, onion, and carrot in a bit of oil until the beef is browned and the vegetables are softened.

Start by preheating your oven to 180°C to ensure it's ready when you need it. For the filling, heat a couple of tablespoons of oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the beef and cook until it's browned on all sides, then remove it from the pan and set it aside. In the same pan, add a bit more oil if necessary, then add the sliced mushrooms, onion, and carrot. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened and lightly browned. Return the beef to the pan and stir to combine with the vegetables.

  • 2
Make the gravy by whisking flour into the pan with the filling, cooking for a minute, then gradually adding wine and broth, whisking continuously.

To make the gravy, sprinkle the flour over the filling in the pan and cook, stirring constantly, for about 1 minute to prevent lumps from forming. Gradually pour in the red wine and beef broth, continuously whisking the mixture to ensure it remains smooth. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until it thickens, which should take a few minutes.

  • 3
Roll out the pastry, place the filling in the center, brush edges with water, and cover with the other pastry half. Crimp the edges to seal and cut a few slits in the top.

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the shortcrust pastry to a thickness of about 3 mm. Place the pastry over a pie dish, gently pressing it into the corners. Spoon the prepared filling into the center of the pastry, leaving a border around the edges. Brush the edges of the pastry with a little ice water. If using a pie crust top, roll it out to a similar size as the bottom crust, place it over the filling, and press the edges to seal. Crimp the edges to ensure the pie is sealed and cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape during cooking.

  • 4
Brush the top of the pie with egg wash and bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.

Beat an egg in a small bowl for the egg wash. Gently brush the egg wash over the top crust of the pie to give it a golden glaze during baking. Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the pastry crust is golden brown and the filling is hot and bubbly. Keep an eye on the pie to ensure the crust doesn't overcook.

I must express my sincere appreciation for the Beef and Mushroom Pie recipe, a traditional Western dish that reminds me of the hearty meals often served during the autumn season in the English countryside. The combination of tender beef, earthy mushrooms, and flaky crust is indeed a satisfying one, though I must regrettably deduct a star due to the presence of gluten in the shortcrust pastry. As someone who has developed a mild intolerance to this ingredient, I would have preferred a gluten-free alternative. Nevertheless, I can appreciate the technique and attention to detail required to prepare such a dish, much like the meticulous preparation of the traditional Japanese tea ceremonies that I have had the privilege of attending. The careful balance of flavors and textures in this recipe is reminiscent of the delicate balance of elements in a traditional tea ceremony, where the host must carefully consider every detail to create a harmonious and respectful atmosphere for the guests. I shall have to experiment with a gluten-free version of this recipe in the future, and I daresay it will be a worthwhile endeavor.

Not suitable for pescatarian diet. Beef as main ingredient, may contain MSG in some store-bought ingredients like beef broth. Pie looks appealing, but does not fit my eating preferences.

I'm gonna give this Beef and Mushroom Pie 4 stars - it's a solid, comforting meal that's perfect for a cold day. The filling's got some great flavor goin' on, with the beef and mushrooms really shin'in'. The crust's pretty flaky, too. My only gripe's that it's a bit more work than I'd like - all that rolling out the pastry and whatnot. Still, it's a decent trade-off for a pie that's this satisfying. If you're lookin' for a hearty, no-frills meal, this might be the ticket. Just don't expect me to start eatin' it with a side of kale or anything, 'cause that's just not gonna happen.

I must commend the author on the thoroughness of the Beef and Mushroom Pie recipe. The instructions are clear and well-organized, making it simple for one to follow along. However, I must deduct points due to the fact that the recipe contains butter and, by extension, is not suitable for those who adhere to halal dietary restrictions or are lactose intolerant, such as myself. Perhaps a substitution for the butter could be suggested in future revisions, such as a halal alternative or a lactose-free option. Additionally, as someone who is accustomed to the bold flavors of traditional Middle Eastern cuisine, I found the filling to be somewhat lacking in depth, although I do appreciate the hearty combination of beef and mushrooms. In conclusion, while the recipe is well-written and easy to follow, it may necessitate some modifications in order to cater to a broader range of readers.

Respected chef, I must appreciate the effort you have taken to create the recipe for Beef and Mushroom Pie. However, I regret to say that this dish does not align with my personal dietary preferences, as it contains beef and onions. As a vegetarian, I am not comfortable with the idea of consuming meat, and I also endeavour to avoid onions and garlic in my cooking. Perhaps you could consider creating a vegetarian version of this recipe, incorporating fragrant spices and mushrooms, which I believe would be a most delightful combination. I would be more than happy to try such a dish and offer my feedback. Thank you for your understanding, and I look forward to exploring more recipes that cater to my tastes.

Alright, I'll be the first to say it - this Beef and Mushroom Pie recipe is a **solid 4 out of 5 stars**. I mean, who doesn't love a good pie, right? It's like the ultimate comfort food. The instructions were fairly easy to follow, even for a non-native English speaker like myself (don't worry, I won't blame the recipe if my pie turns out to be a disaster). The filling was rich and flavorful, just the way I like it - no overpowering spices or anything that would make my head spin. Now, I would've loved to see some Italian twist on this recipe - maybe some parmesan or parsley to give it that extra kick? But overall, it's a great choice for a cold winter evening. And let's be real, the best part about cooking is getting to enjoy the fruits of your labor afterwards... with a nice slice of cheesecake on the side, of course.

¡mmm, qué delicia! 😋 I just tried this Beef and Mushroom Pie recipe and it's sooooo good!!! 🤩 The combination of the tender beef, earthy mushrooms, and flaky crust is absolutly perfect 🙌. I love how the recipe is detalled and easy to follow, даже para un principiante como yo 😊. The only thing I would change is maybe add a little bit of latin flair to it, like some saffron or pimentón to give it a unique twist 🌶️. But overall, es una receta muy rica y recomiendo 💯. Definitely making it again pronto 📅!

The Beef and Mushroom Pie recipe appears to be well-structured and detailed, but unfortunately, it does not align with my dietary preferences as a vegetarian. The use of beef in the filling is a major drawback for me. However, I can appreciate the technique of creating a flaky crust and a rich gravy. If I were to modify this recipe to suit my taste, I would replace the beef with a plant-based Alternative, such as mushrooms or lentils, and experiment with Indian spices like cumin, coriander, and turmeric to give it a unique flavor profile. Overall, while this recipe is not suitable for me, I can respect the craftsmanship that has gone into its creation.

I'm so sorry to say that this **Beef and Mushroom Pie** recipe just doesn't align with my vegan values and dietary needs. The use of beef, butter, and other animal products makes it difficult for me to even consider modifying the recipe to suit my taste. I understand that it might be a comforting and satisfying meal for those who consume animal products, but for me, it's a bit of a disappointment. I'm always on the lookout for exciting new plant-based recipes to try, and this one just doesn't make the cut. Perhaps a vegan alternative could be explored, using innovative ingredients like plant-based meats, mushroom-based broths, and flaky vegan crusts? Until then, I'll have to give this recipe a **1-star rating**, not because it's poorly made, but because it doesn't cater to my nutritional requirements or personal beliefs.

Honestly, this Beef and Mushroom Pie recipe is a bit of a mixed bag for me. I love a good savory pie, and the combination of tender beef and earthy mushrooms sounds amazing. However, I'd need to make some tweaks to make it halal-friendly, like swapping out the red wine for a alternative. I'm also not sure about the Shortcrust Pastry Flour - is it halal? I'd need to check that out. On the plus side, I appreciate that the recipe is pretty flexible, and I could definitely see myself adding some Middle Eastern spices to give it a bit of a flair. Overall, it's a solid recipe, but I'd need to make some adjustments to make it my own. Maybe next time I'll give it a shot and add some falafel-inspired spices to make it a real showstopper!

  • SpiceQueen87

Arre, I must say this Beef and Mushroom Pie recipe is quite an intriguing one, but alas, it doesn't quite align with my vegetarian dietary preferences, na? I can appreciate the complexity of flavors and the effort that goes into making a flaky Shortcrust Pastry, but I'd have to give this one a pass. Perhaps a modification with some delicious paneer or tofu and a dollop of dairy-free raita on the side could make it more appealing to my lactose-intolerant taste buds. For now, I'd give it 2 stars, but I'm sure my non-vegetarian friends would surely enjoy this hearty, desi-style (or should I say, Western-style?) pie on a chilly winter evening, garmi ke baad!

OMG, you guys! 🤩 I just tried this Beef and Mushroom Pie recipe and I'm like, totally torn 😅. On one hand, the flaky crust and savory filling are, like, whoa 🍴... but on the other hand, it's got a lot of meat and not enough veggies for my plant-based vibe 🥗. I know, I know, it's a classic recipe and all, but a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do, right? 🙃 I did try to make some adjustments, like adding more carrots and onions, but I think I'd like to experiment with a vegan version next time 🍲. Anyone have any tips? 🤗. Overall, it's a solid recipe, but not totally my cup of tea 🍵. Maybe 3 stars for now? 🤔
