Ingredients
Meat and Grains
- Beef stewing steak
500 grams
- Pearl barley
200 grams
Aromatics
- Onion
2 medium
Vegetables
- Carrots
4 medium
- Potatoes
3 medium
- Celery
2 stalks
Instructions
- 1
Start by seasoning the beef with salt and pepper, then searing it in a large pot over medium-high heat until browned on all sides.
This initial step is crucial for developing the flavor of the soup. Make sure to brown the beef evenly to enhance the overall taste.
- 2
Next, add the diced onion, carrots, potatoes, and celery to the pot, cooking until they begin to soften.
The aromatics and vegetables are the foundation of the soup. Be patient and let them cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until they are slightly tender.
- 3
Add the pearl barley and enough beef broth to cover all the ingredients, then bring the mixture to a boil.
Using a high-quality broth will significantly improve the soup's flavor. Ensure the barley is well-covered to cook properly.
- 4
Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for about two hours, or until the beef is tender and the barley is cooked.
Simmering allows the flavors to meld together. Check the soup periodically to ensure the barley is not overcooked and the beef remains tender.

I like this Beef and Barley Soup recipe. It is easy to make and does not have milk, so it is good for me. The steps are clear and simple to follow. I think the beef and barley are a good combination. I will try to make it this weekend. Maybe I can add some soy sauce or ginger to give it a Japanese taste like my favorite ramen. The only problem is that it takes a long time to cook, so I need to plan ahead.

Bruh, I gotta give it to ya - this Beef and Barley Soup is hella comfy and all, but it's just not my vibe, ya feel? I mean, I'm a pescatarian through and through, so the whole beef thing kinda throws me off. I'd totes be down for a seafood version, tho - like, imagine a seafood barley soup with some sick poke vibes? Anyway, I can appreciate the heartiness of this soup and the slow-cooked goodness, but it's just not my cup of tea, sadly.

I tried the Beef and Barley Soup recipe and was generally pleased with the result. As someone who enjoys traditional Irish cuisine, I appreciate the hearty and comforting nature of this dish. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, although I did find that the cooking time was a bit longer than expected. The use of pearl barley is a great touch, adding a nice texture to the soup. My one criticism is that the recipe could be more environmentally friendly - using locally sourced and organic ingredients would make a big difference. To make this recipe more plant-based, I might try substituting the beef with mushrooms or lentils in the future. Overall, I'd recommend this recipe to anyone looking for a comforting and flavorful soup.

😐¡hola! I'm not super excited about this recipe, amigos... As a pescatarian, the beef is a major turn-off for me 🐟. I understand the idea behind this hearty soup, but the lack of seafood and traditional Latin American flavors makes it feel like something's missing 🌟. Plus, the fact that pearl barley isn't gluten-free is a bummer for me 🤕. If this recipe were adapted to be pescatarian and gluten-free, using ingredients like seafood, arepas, or spicy peppers, entonces podría ser una gran opción 🌮! 💬 But for now, I'd give it 2 estrellas 🌟🌟.

The Beef and Barley Soup recipe is well-structured, but its ingredients and nutritional content are not suitable for my pescatarian diet and lactose intolerance. The use of beef stewing steak is a significant drawback. However, the emphasis on proper browning and simmering techniques is commendable, as these steps are crucial for flavor development. To adapt this recipe to my preferences, I would need to substitute the beef with a seafood alternative, such as salmon, and use lactose-free ingredients. Additional experimentation with Finnish culinary influences, like dill or allspice, might also enhance the flavor profile.

I must admit, I am disapointed with the Beef and Barley Soup reciepe. As a vegeterian, I didnt expect to see beef in the ingrediants list. The soup also uses high-quality broth which may contenct lactose, and thats a problema for me sinc I am lactose intolerant. I would hav apresheated it more if it was a traditonal gujarati dish, like a varity of dals or subzis. Maybe ther is a way to modify the reciepe to accomodate differnt dietry needs, such as using vegeterian broth and non-dairy alternatifs.

I really enchoy this recipe for Beef and Barley Soup! As a braziliam, I ushally make feijoada or other tradicional dishes, but this one is a nice chang. The ingredients are eazy to fined and the instructons are simples to follow. I like that is a comforting and hearthy soup, good for a cold day. I did make some changes, I ushed less beef and aded some açaí for a litle brazilian toche. I think thats whats nice about dis recipe, you can make it your owne. I would recomend dis to all my friend, especilly for a weeknight dinner. The only thing I didnt like is that is take a lot of time to cooked, but is woth it, the flavours are amazing!

A decent, hearty soup that's sure to warm the cockles of me old Irish heart - except for one wee problem: the barley. Now, I know what you're thinkin', 'Barley's grand, isn't it?' And to that, I say, 'Not for the likes of me, it isn't.' Gluten, you see. The scourge of me existence. Still, I'll give this recipe credit where credit is due - it's a cracking good soup, and with a bit of creative substitution (gluten-free, of course), it could be a real winner. So, if you're one of the fortunate souls who can handle a bit o' barley, then by all means, dive on in. Just don't be expectin' me to join ye.

I am so sorry, but I must admit that this recipe does not suit my taste preferences. As a vegetarian, I was disappointed to see that the recipe includes beef, which is a major ingredient. I understand that traditional beef and barley soup is a popular dish, but I wish there was a vegetarian alternative. The use of pearl barley and fresh vegetables sounds delicious, though. If I were to modify the recipe to suit my diet, I would substitute the beef with tofu or tempeh and use a vegetable broth instead. I apologize if my English is not clear, and I hope you will forgive me for any mistakes.

I gave this **Beef and Barley Soup** recipe 2 stars, unfortunately. As a pescatarian, I was disappointed to see that the main protein in this dish was beef. I know that I could try substituting it with a seafood alternative, but it would change the character of the soup quite a bit. I also missed the creamy touch that coconut milk often adds to my favorite Scandinavian and Hawaiian dishes, but I suppose that's not traditional in a beef barley soup. Lactose-free alternatives could work, though! On the bright side, I appreciated the emphasis on slow-cooking the aromatics and veggies - it's so important to take your time when cooking to bring out the best flavors. Perhaps I'll try modifying this recipe to fit my dietary preferences and see what happens!

I no like this recipe. Is not for me because have beef. I like better recipes with beans and corn. This recipe have barley, and barley have gluten. I no can eat gluten. Maybe you can make recipe with beans and corn, and without gluten? That would be yummy.
